Do you have a bible verse about marriage that comes into your mind immediately when you are asked for it?
I must admit that being a woman, the most popular verse about marriage that comes on top of my head is this:
I knew this verse on top of my head even before I got married because I have heard it, read it from books and seen it on several shows about marriage and it was the only verse about marriage that I really knew.
Now that I have committed myself to Christ and have been attending a small group in our church at CCF, I have learned a few more bible verses about marriage that are mostly used by Christians to explain what marriage is and what is God’s design for marriage.
Here are the most popular bible verses about marriage:
This bible verse is about leaving and cleaving of a married couple where they both leave their parents to cleave to one another being united in flesh.
This verse helped me and my husband to understand that when we got married, we are already one which means we should be united in all our decision. It was not about him or me but us. It was not about I or you but we as a married couple facing all the challenges that our marriage has in store for us.
How many times have men outspokenly said how hard it is for them to understand their wives?
Well, men and women were created differently and God intended for that so that in marriage, both men and women will learn to understand each other even though they are both different.
I always point this out to my husband that if he wants his prayers answered, he better learn to understand me and my ways because we are both heirs to the throne of grace. This is not a suggestion, it is a command from God.
Women are also commanded by God to submit to their husbands unconditionally.
I know this is hard for women who are earning bigger salary than their husband or if they are the bread winner of their family either by choice or by circumstances because it is harder to submit when you think that you have more right to claim the position of being the head of the family.
I did fall into this trap by the enemy and God taught me a great lesson to learn this. It was made clear to me that submitting to my husband did not come with conditions if he deserves it or if he is worth my respect because submitting to him was clearly showing that I submit to God’s commands.
Men are commanded to love their wives because it is not natural for them to love their wives. Its the women who has the natural ability to love their husbands no matter what.
Men wants respect from their wives that is why God commands women to submit to their husband to give them the respect that they need and women needs love from their husbands so God commanded men to love their wives.
