Do you experience PMS or premenstrual syndrome?
Before, when I would experience it, my husband would often know about it because I would get moody and irritated for no reason at all.
I just felt at that time that I had all the right to behave in an unreasonable manner because I was having PMS or premenstrual syndrome.
I would feel depressed or frustrated with certain things and I would lash it out towards my husband and it would often lead us into an ugly argument.
He calls me crazy during those times and instead of giving me comfort and understanding, he would fire back at me saying that I had no right at all to behave in such a manner just because I was having a PMS.
I would then thought of him as insensitive to my feelings and to what I was going through that would fire up more rage to get back at him for not giving me the comfort that I was expecting from him.
But I am thankful today that even if sometimes I would feel the effects of the hormonal imbalance when I am on my premenstrual period, by God’s grace, I am able to control my emotions of being crazy and moody.
There are no crazy moments for me using the symptoms of PMS that often destroys a good relationship with my husband. Before I get crazy knowing that the hormonal imbalance is playing up on my emotions, I pause and pray for self-control. I tell my husband immediately that I feel a little off myself and I would ask him to be patient with me and towards my mood. He gives me the space that I need and he lovingly let me get some rest from the circus of having a PMS.
Galatians 5:16 says to “walk by the spirit and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh.”
Choosing to let the Holy Spirit control us when we are having PMS or premenstrual syndrome, we choose “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” Galatians 5:22-23.
Moodiness is basically selfishness when you choose to think only of yourself and behave in a way that hurts other people without you thinking of how your mood might be hurting them.
If not for the Holy Spirit’s guidance and power to control my emotions, I would still have war freak and crazy moments, but by God’s grace, I am able to overcome it.
