Could there be really a blueprint that parents can use to guide them on how to raise their children the right way?
Let’s face it, once we become parents, we don’t really know how to start being one and how to become one and we just follow our instincts on how to raise and take care of our children the way we were also raised by our parents.
And even though there were some ways that our parents have raised us in a way that we don’t really agree, unconsciously we become like them, the kind of parent that our parents were.
So how do we know then how to do parenting the right way?
First we have to learn that parenting is a gift from God and that He was the one who invented it so the only source and the ultimate guide for parenting comes from God also.
Proverbs 22:6 says “Train a child in the way he should go, and even when he is old he will not turn away from it.”
God has given us instructions from the Bible on how to teach our children.
And I would like to share with you what I have learned from reading the book called ” Raising Wise Dads, Moms and Kids” which has opened my eyes on what parenting really is and how important it is to God that we should take it in our hearts to raise godly children who knows how to follow God’s word in everything that they do. This is the most important responsibility that God has given us, not just to raise children who excels high with their grades and who are competitive in winning every medal that they can achieve. Its building the character of our children that is regarded by God as the most important task we should be able to fulfill as parents.
Here is an Ultimate Guide To Parenting Blueprint:
Who Should Teach?
When I was attending the orientation for home school program at TMA, this question was asked by Edric Mendoza, that if we home school our kids, who should teach them? Does it really have to be us? And he explained it this way, when our child first started to talk, were we not the one who was there teaching them how to talk and when they started to walk, were we not the one who was also there guiding them until they were finally able to walk on their own. By God’s design, we were tasked by God to be the teachers of our own children which only means that we, as parents are the most primary teachers of our own children.
What To Teach?
You might be asking now what will I teach my children. Remember that the most important lesson that we should teach our children are the commands that God has given to His people and the teachings of God from the Bible.
How To Teach?
First is to impress it upon the hearts of our children which can be done by diligently teaching them until it pricks to their hearts what the teachings of the Lord is. Second, parents are to talk about the teachings of the Lord in daily conversations. Third, parents are to teach with intention and action so that the children may see how it is done. Fourth, parents are to teach in such a way that is evident to the neighbors which means even outside the house, the teachings can be seen by the people around them.
When To Teach?
While sitting down, walking along, lying down and getting up from sunrise to sundown. This will determine how much time you are spending with your child.
Where To Teach?
At home and on the road. When parents are at hone and when travelling with their child, it also shows the quality time being spent with the kids.
Deuteronomy 6:2 says “so that you and your son and your grandson might fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged” Our God commands us to teach our children and build their character according to God’s teachings. In this way, as parents, we are able to honor God and show him how much we love and respect him by teaching our children well.
I hope that somehow I have shared with you some valuable lessons on how we could be the best parent and teacher to our children.
